November meeting notes

November 10th racked up a total attendance of 42 with no recorded visitors. Dan Claassen won the bubble drawing and Dave Collins received the door prize. After reports by Recording Secretary Dorothy Galovich-Call and Treasurer Briita Ehlers, President Alistair Skinner ran down the list of announcements, coin shows and upcoming club calendar events. He also announced the slate for the board and officer elections. Show and tell included: Mike Jordan, mercury dime set acquired from an auction; Lyle Okamoto, San Francisco Mint show program, US Virgin Islands quarter roll, Iwo Jima pin, rotated-die counterfeit buffalo nickel; Richard Kelly, Air Force uniform jacket, Pvt. M.N. Newman engraved wings, Nazi German medal for Russian campaign; Bill Hurja, Hawaiian quarter from jewelry; Dan Claassen, Egyptian 1903 10 Qirsh, 1916 10 Piastres, 1970 50 Piastres, 1937 10 Piastres; Ken Barr, French medal from 1915 Pan-Pac expo; Harry Davis, Washington golden dollar slabbed for veterans, ruptured duck pin, Vallejo NS medal with ruptured duck design, service ID card; Chuck White, 2009 U.S. Mint Lincoln coin and chronicles set; Don Ehlers, Declaration for Pension of a civil war soldier; Jeanna Keegan, Girl Scout medal; Wanda Johnson, Medal of Honor list; Gary Acquistapace, Gibraltar pound; Chuck Call, 1967 Canadian proof set with half ounce gold; and Briita Ehlers, M&A 5 cent token from Altoona, WA. Don Ehlers won the show and tell drawing. Alistair Skinner 16 auction lots with one donation lot while the Claassen brothers ran the items.

The second club meeting on November 24th drew an attendance of 33 with no recorded guests. Member 1021 was not present to win the bubble drawing and Wanda Johnson won the door prize. After reports, Alistair announced upcoming shows and club events. Show and tell participants were: Dorothy Galovich-Call, U.C. seal die; Chuck Call, 1873 CC trade dollar; Jim Barton, animal currency - South African 100 Rand water buffalo, Venezuelan 50 Bolivares bear, Tonga one dollar whale; Dan Claassen, 1797 British 2 pence; Bill Hurja, cent planchet and off-center cent; Ken Barr, Statue of Liberty centennial Liberty bank note; Chuck White, copper bars - 1 gram, half pound, one pound and one kilo; and Ron Ikebe, counterfeit Morgan in opened slab, halt of Eagle sales by the U.S. Mint, and recovered dealer merchandise that was previously stolen. Ron Ikebe won the show and tell drawing. Alistair followed by reading the list of election candidates for the club officer positions. All filled positions were accepted by acclamation. Next he read the list of candidates for board positions and asked if there were any additional nominations. Two were given, but neither were willing or able to be included. Ballots were distributed, as there were six valid candidates for the five open positions. The results are on page 3. Thanks go to Jim Barton and Mike Jordan for counting the ballots over the break. Alistair called 16 lots in the auction with one being donation. Ram Sethi and Dan Claassen ran the auction items. Dennis Pagano won gold in the prize drawing. Apologies for the lack of pictures, as I was under the weather, and thanks to Dorothy for the use of her notes.
